Dropping several strings lowers the total tension and the neck shifts a little: go round once more when you finish.
All six strings a semitone down: less tension, easier bends and a key that suits many voices. Very common in blues-rock, hard rock and grunge.

Not for one or two semitones down. If you go lower, slightly heavier strings keep them from going slack and buzzing.
